1. Chandler Hutchison, SG/SF — Boise State

Chandler Hutchison wasn’t exactly what you would call a star player after his first two seasons at Boise State. While he doubled his scoring output between Year 1 and 2, he still averaged just 6.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest during his sophomore season.

During his junior campaign, though, Hutchison made a tremendous leap, as there was a significant increase in his scoring (17.4 points per outing) and rebounding (7.8 per game). Despite the growth, however, he opted to return to school for a fourth season.

In his final season, Hutchison posted averages of 20.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He led the Mountain Western Conference in scoring, had the highest Player Efficiency Rating and posted the best defensive rebounding percentage, per BlazersEdge.com.

Some other positives for Hutchison include:

  • Potential to be a 3-and-D wing at the next level.
  • Possesses ideal size and length (6’7” with a 7’1”wingspan) to harass opposing perimeter players and disrupt passing lanes.
  • Adequate playmaker. Averaged 4.5 assists per outing on adjusted 40-minute scale.
  • Shoots the long ball at a respectable clip (35.9 percent) and plays within the offense.

For all the positives Hutchison brings to the table, there a few minuses as well. For example, there’s still room for improvement in regards to his ball-handling, as he committed 3.4 turnovers per contest. Additionally, Hutchison is not a great free throw shooter, having converted 68.7 percent of his attempts from the charity stripe during his collegiate career.

It is also worth noting that he may not ever develop into a go-to scorer due to the lack of a quick first step.

All in all, the good definitely outweighs the bad and Chicago would certainly benefit from adding a player with his skill-set to the mix. One other interesting tidbit about Hutchison is that he recently withdrew from the NBA Draft Combine after receiving a promise from a team that he will be selected somewhere between the 20th and 30th spots in the first round.

Although Hutchison has not been linked with the Bulls in any way at this point, it is possible that they could be the team in question.
