Washington Wizards: 5 options for pick No. 15 in 2018 NBA Draft
3. Jontay Porter
Missouri Tigers big man Jontay Porter is one of those athletic bigs John Wall spoke of needing at the end of last season. Porter entered the 2018 NBA Draft, but did not hire an agent. Pending the return he receives on his performance at the combine, he could return to Missouri.
The 6’11” big man doesn’t have raw athleticism, but he makes up for that in other ways. He averaged 9.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game off the bench as a freshman with Missouri in 2016-17. His shooting percentage from the floor was 43.7 percent, but he did shoot 36.7 percent (40-for-110) from 3-point range.
Under a system like the Wizards’, Porter would work. He would come in understanding that his role will be developing off the bench. He’d serve as a solid rim protector in the paint and stretch option in the pick-and-roll game. Porter makes for a good big man to develop for the future from Washington’s point-of-view.
