With the first overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Phoenix Suns have a huge decision to make. Here are their top five options for the No. 1 selection.

In 50 years as an NBA franchise, the Phoenix Suns had never selected first in the draft, nor had they ever won a championship. Thanks to Lady Luck finally responding to one of the Suns’ desperate “U up?” texts in the 2018 NBA Draft Lottery, they’ll get to check off the former box in the hopes of eventually checking off the latter.

Heading into Tuesday night’s draft lottery with 25 percent odds of snagging the No. 1 overall pick, Phoenix won the top selection despite both the Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks sneaking into the top three.

It’s not an exaggeration to say this is the biggest summer in franchise history for the Suns, and not just because general manager Ryan McDonough’s job security isn’t what it once was. Phoenix has missed the playoffs for a franchise-record eight seasons, is one of the five winningest teams in league history despite never winning a title, and has a 21-year-old superstar who’s already too good to continue wasting away on a youth movement.

Devin Booker‘s emergence in Year 3 put additional pressure on McDonough to accelerate “The Timeline.” Step one was finding the right head coach, which Phoenix accomplished by hiring Igor Kokoskov. Step two was securing at least a top-two pick after finishing with a league-worst 21-61 record. The Suns checked off that box Tuesday with the No. 1 overall pick.

Armed with cap space, the top selection and the No. 16, No. 31 and No. 59 picks in this year’s draft, the Phoenix Suns have a busy summer ahead of them. The question is, which prospects should be at the top of their list? Here’s a look at their top five options for the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
