1. Trae Young

The most logical player for the Orlando Magic happens to be one that should be there at No. 6 on draft night. Trae Young was the most talked about player in recent years while at his lone season at the University of Oklahoma, where he led the nation in scoring (27.4 points per game) and distributed the ball effectively, averaging 8.7 assists per game.

What makes Young so exciting is his endless shooting range, knocking down 36.3 percent of his 3-point shots on 10.3 attempts per game. He can pull up from anywhere, and has a strong handle with plenty of moves to create space to get his shot off. His level of shooting changes the dynamics of the court, forcing defenders to pick him right after half court and open up space for teammates, which he has no problem finding given his great vision and assist rate.

Young gets careless with the ball and has the obvious size question marks that limit how well of a defender he will be in the NBA, but you aren’t drafting Young for defense. The Magic would be grabbing a player that reignites a fan base searching for some type of lightning rod to root for.

He would sell jerseys, get fans in the stands and improve the team in its biggest areas of weakness: outside shooting and playmaking. This isn’t hard for the Magic. You can nitpick his limitations all you want, but his shooting is as valuable as any skill in this draft. Slotting Trae Young to the Orlando Magic seems like the most sensible player-team pairing in this class.
