Los Angeles Clippers: 5 options for pick No. 12 in 2018 NBA Draft
3. Collin Sexton
Of all the prospects on this list, Sexton is the least likely to be around when the Clippers are on the clock. However, there are some mock drafts that have Sexton slipping out of the top 10. If that happens, he will not make it past Los Angeles at either No. 12 or No. 13.
Sexton is a hard worker with a high motor that gets the job done on both ends of the court. Opposing point guards would be in for long nights with Sexton and Patrick Beverley harassing them 94 feet, 48 minutes a game.
The backcourt, specifically point guard, is an area of need for Los Angeles long-term. Patrick Beverley is going to be 30 when the 2018-19 season begins. Milos Teodosic is 31 years old. They should be serviceable for a few more seasons, but infusing some youth into the backcourt would be smart.
Sexton has shown enough at Alabama that he can develop into a starting point guard. He can score the ball, as he relentlessly attacks the paint. Sexton also showed enough of a jump shot that he can keep teams honest. However, developing more consistency with his jumper would make him a much more dangerous player.
Sexton would be a great addition to the Clippers and a good building block for their future. Chris Paul isn’t walking back through that door, so it is time to find another long-term answer at point guard.
