Lady Luck wasn’t on the Cleveland Cavaliers’ side during the 2018 NBA Draft Lottery, but they can still land a major talent with the No. 8 pick.

Nick Gilbert, son of Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, represented the team at the 2018 NBA Draft Lottery Tuesday night.

Three months removed from brain surgery, Nick is an incredible story and probably considers himself lucky — not just because he is recovering well after the procedure, but because he’s been present twice already when Cleveland drew the No. 1 overall pick.

History didn’t repeat itself for a thid time. The Cavaliers settled for the eighth pick, one that once belonged to the Boston Celtics via the Brooklyn Nets. Over the past 10 years in the draft, that particular selection has yielded predominately role players — the Nik Stauskases and Kentavious Caldwell-Popes of the world.

This draft, however, seems different. The top nine, possibly 10 players all appear to have serious All-Star potential. This draft feels deeper than most at the top.

Let’s presume Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III and Luka Doncic are drafted somewhere in the top three. The Memphis Grizzlies desperately need a player they can build around at No. 4, and I think that would be Michael Porter Jr. So that leaves five extremely strong prospects that could fall to Cleveland. Let’s go through them.
