Chicago Bulls: 5 options for pick No. 7 in 2018 NBA Draft
3. Miles Bridges, SF/PF — Michigan State
Another option for the Bulls is the 6’7” forward Miles Bridges from Michigan State – a player that is considered a good leaper with good body control. During his freshman season at MSU, Bridges compiled averages of 16.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per outing, which led some to believe he was going to jump to the NBA last season.
However, Bridges decided to return to MSU for his sophomore campaign and the results were somewhat mixed. Yes, his scoring output (17.1 points per game) and assist numbers are slightly up (2.7 this year compared to 2.1 last year); but there were other areas in which his production declined.
For example, Bridges rebounding average dipped from 8.3 boards per game to 6.8. He converted 38.9 of his attempts from deep in 2016-17, but shot 36.4 percent from long range this season.
On the plus side, though, Bridges is regarded as a capable shooter from any spot on the floor, which should allow him to carve out a niche within the offense.
He has become more aggressive with regards to attacking the rim and is an adequate scorer off the dribble. Furthermore, Bridges’ averages (17.1 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game) put him in rare company as only 20 college sophomores have posted similar numbers over the past quarter century, per SportingNews.com.
For the time being, Bridges’ ceiling is more of a player that can be a contributor coming off the bench. Considering the Bulls are pretty much set with their starting five, that won’t be an issue.
