Charlotte Hornets: 5 options for pick No. 11 in 2018 NBA Draft

The Charlotte Hornets are back in the 2018 NBA Draft with the 11th pick as they hope to keep Kemba Walker on board after the season.

The Charlotte Hornets are in repeat mode after earning the 11th pick once again in the 2018 NBA Draft. They selected Malik Monk at No. 11 in the 2017 NBA Draft. Monk finished well in his last six games as a pro basketball player, averaging 19.8 points and 3.8 assists per game in that span while shooting 47 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range.

While Monk served as a solid reserve, he wasn’t the best backup point guard for them, a role he found himself playing in 2017-18. He’s got playmaking ability, but he’s not ready to run an NBA offense.

With this year’s 11th selection, electing a playmaking guard has to be on the Hornets’ draft agenda. Kemba Walker will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019, so they should prepare for the worst now. Even then, drafting a guard with the 11th pick gives them some much-needed depth in the backcourt.

Charlotte missed the postseason this past season, turning in a 36-46 record — an identical finish to 2016-17. They’ll need to draft a scoring guard with a winner’s mentality going forward. Here’s a look at five options for the Charlotte Hornets with the No. 11 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
