5. Trae Young

  • Height: 6’2″
  • Weight: 176 lbs
  • Age: 19
  • Position: PG

Trae Young came into this past season at the University of Oklahoma as a potential first round pick. He then went on a complete tear and was arguably the biggest star in college basketball. He is a flashy, playmaking point guard who draws comparisons to Stephen Curry because of his elite shooting and range. The Ringer labeled him as a “polarizing point guard prospect who, depending on the perspective, can look like either Steph Curry or Seth Curry.”

In his one season at Oklahoma, Young averaged 27.4 points, 8.7 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 35.4 minutes per game while shooting 42.2 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from the 3-point line. Young was the go-to guy on his team and was the reason for his team’s success this past season. He was named the USBWA Freshman of the Year.

The Hawks are in a rebuild and would have the opportunity to start Young and not have super high expectations from him. He could learn, develop, make mistakes and not have the stress of being pulled out of a game. He is an electrifying player and would bring a spark to this Hawks team.

Young is an excellent shooter and ball-handler and is what NBA teams want in a point guard nowadays. The Ringer compared him to Mike Bibby, Aaron Brooks and Trey Burke. Young still has room to grow in his body and skill, but has a chance to be fantastic NBA player for a long time.
