Jalen Brunson, PG — Villanova

One of the safer options for the Lakers at No. 25, Jalen Brunson seems to be a favorite among Los Angeles faithful. The fact that he previously played alongside Josh Hart at Villanova may have something to do with that, though.

Still, it’s not just his choice of college that has folks talking about him as a legitimate target for the Lakers. It’s also his outstanding leadership skills and ability to serve as a quality floor general. Although he isn’t an electric scorer or ball-handler, he plays smart, efficient basketball and excels at setting up his teammates for success.

It doesn’t help his case that he’s only 6’3″, 190 pounds and isn’t an athletic freak. Still, if you’re looking for a quality backup point guard, Brunson seems like an intriguing option.

As it so happens, that’s exactly what the Lakers need at this moment. Ball is an outstanding starter, but can’t play all 48 minutes and battled through numerous injuries as a rookie. With a lack of legitimate No. 2 options at the 1 spot, it would be wise for Los Angeles to hone their focus on a point guard prospect who can be a leader and facilitator for the second unit.

Brunson fits that description to a T. Hence, his inclusion on this list of candidates to be the next Lakers draftee.
