After being pushed into a starting role due to so many injuries, Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie stepped up and performed better than expected.

Brooklyn Nets fans must be ecstatic with how Spencer Dinwiddie did this season. After injuries to Jeremy Lin and D’Angelo Russell, the starting point guard spot was vacant. Dinwiddie took control without hesitation, and helped institute the ball-sharing offense that coach Kenny Atkinson has always wanted.

His ability to immediately be an NBA-level contributor is a testament to his work ethic, which dates back to his time as a journeyman. Despite only being drafted as recently as 2014, the Nets are his third team (he did not play a single game for the Chicago Bulls).

The Nets didn’t care about his past. A player who can merely hold the fort down while the starters rest would have been great return for a minimum-contract player.

Brooklyn got much more than a game manager, however. They got a game-changer. Now it’s time to review his 2017-18 season, and give Dinwiddie proper appreciation.
