Brooklyn Nets: 2017-18 player grades for Allen Crabbe
By Alec Liebsch
Final grade
In summation, Crabbe has outperformed most expectations from before the season began. Despite nearly doubling his average 3-point attempts after being traded to Brooklyn, he still maintained an above-average efficiency. Additionally, he developed new layers to his game that make him more than just your average sniper.
Overall, Crabbe’s move to Brooklyn was the best thing for him. Opportunity, combined with a developmental genius like Kenny Atkinson, resulted in quite a successful season for Crabbe. After just turning 26 in April, he is not even in his prime yet. With a little more help from the front office to spread the floor better, Crabbe — and many others — will bolster their collective productivity.
On a team that values ball movement and creative license, one man’s floor-spacing presence is another man’s 3-pointer. With marginal improvements up and down the roster, guys like Crabbe could turn from volume shooters to volume snipers in the blink of an eye.
Crabbe is the “3-and-D” mold that every team wants. His albatross contract is far from an issue, especially when the Nets gave up nothing to incur him. Patience is a virtue with rebuilds, and it’s clear the Nets poached a guy no one else wanted.
