Lakers still “favorites” to sign Paul George?

The PG-13-to-the-Lakers train is rolling along at top speed right now. After the Oklahoma City Thunder underwhelmed and suffered an early exit from the postseason, the whispers are louder than ever that Paul George is ready to make his triumphant return to L.A.

Here’s what the Washington Post‘s Tom Bontemps had to say about the matter:

"“Ask people today – particularly in the wake of this first-round exit – and they’ll say the Lakers are still remain the favorites to get him this summer.”"

This pretty much falls in line with what we’ve been hearing all season long. We all knew him staying in OKC would likely come down to whether or not the Thunder could compete. With Russell Westbrook struggling to share the spotlight and Carmelo Anthony looking old and washed up, it feels like a situation George would love to escape.

Well, I can assure you the Lakers’ situation is far more enticing. With Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram making this young lineup one of the league’s most intriguing, it would make sense for an established star like George to slot in as the missing piece to the puzzle. I can imagine pairing him with another star would make the move all the more tempting.

PG-13 already alluded to his interest in returning to Los Angeles in a cryptic statement during his exit interview (starts at 12:30 mark). I’m not into reading tea leaves, but it seems like all of the pieces are falling into place for George to don the purple and gold in the near future.
