Washington Wizards: 5 takeaways from 2017-18 NBA season
The Washington Wizards’ 2017-18 season has come to an end after falling to the Toronto Raptors in the playoffs. Here’s a look at five takeaways from the season.
The Washington Wizards had an interesting 2017-18 season. All-Star point guard John Wall missed 41 games with a knee injury, but it seemed like the team adjusted to life without him. Then, they fell apart. The Wizards finished the regular season limping into the postseason.
They dropped to a 7-13 record to close the year after going 8-4 in the month of February. That month was enough to earn Scott Brooks Eastern Conference Coach of the Month honors, but it seemed like the ship lost its way down the stretch.
After falling down 0-2 in their series against the Toronto Raptors, the Wizards bounced back, winning two straight games and tying the series at 2-2. Then, inexplicably, Washington reverted back to its worst self. The team lost two straight games after that, snapping its postseason eight-game winning streak in the process.
For what it’s worth, the Washington Wizards had a decent season considering the circumstances. Still, when they were healthy, this team had you questioning your loyalty in rooting for them.
They fell in six games to Toronto in the first round after getting to Game 7 in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics a year prior. The competitive juices will need to be re-calibrated this offseason in Washington, but in the meantime, here’s a look at five takeaways from the 2017-18 season.
