2. Jason Kidd fired as Bucks head coach

Jason Kidd spent over three seasons as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, and it is still unclear whether he was a successful coach. On the one hand, he oversaw Giannis Antetokounmpo becoming a star, two (basically three) playoff berths in four seasons, and a number of young role players finding their place on the team.

On the other, he installed a defensive scheme that was solved almost immediately, giving up easy shot after easy shot. He forced players to fill roles they were uncomfortable in. He was completely unable to handle late-game situations with logic, and then couldn’t express himself to the media when asked to give an account.

On Monday, Jan 22 the news broke that the Bucks would be moving on from Jason Kidd. A few players expressed their disappointment, including Antetokounmpo, but the decision was made and final. A new coach coming in will have the privilege and the burden of getting to know each player and how best deploy them to win games.

While Kidd set a low bar, there are lower bars, and the Bucks are sure to do their homework so that they aren’t left in the dark when something comes up with a coaching candidate. This team has plenty of talent, but Kidd was entirely unsure what, if any of it, would work.
