3. Third quarter outburst provides momentum for Boston

After cutting a 22-point deficit to just five as the second quarter ended, the Celtics were playing with all the momentum in the building, as their play on both ends got the TD Garden crowd rocking.

Once halftime was over and basketball resumed, Boston continued its spirited play, outscoring Philadelphia by a margin of 28-19 in the third quarter.

Despite relinquishing the lead on multiple occasions during the final frame, it was the play during the third quarter that gave Boston the momentum it needed heading into the fourth to secure the victory.

No matter what the venue is, momentum is a powerful weapon in the game of basketball, and that’s something the C’s have used to their advantage many times throughout the 2017-18 season, especially on their home floor.

When the Celtics are able to get the crowd truly involved in the games with their two-way dominance, it gives them an extra energy boost to propel them toward these big scoring disparities in any given quarter.

Their ability to do so, at least at TD Garden, makes no deficit insurmountable, as we’ve seen in past games and again on Thursday night.
