2. Nail the head coaching search

The Atlanta Hawks had a really good head coach, but they chose to let him fulfill his wish of (possibly) coaching in an different environment. He was a candidate for the head coaching vacancies in New York and Phoenix before they were filled, and now the Milwaukee Bucks could be a good fit.

No matter where he ends up, Atlanta may regret letting go of one of the surest things in the organization. With that being said, the Hawks are in the market for a new head coach, and really need to nail their next hire – the future of the franchise could depend on it.

The Hawks could hire someone that literally has had coaching experience, like Jason Kidd or Jeff Hornacek; but both got fired after short stints in Milwaukee and New York, respectively. They could target someone that is more of a “player’s coach” – one that focuses on nurturing relationships with players first, and then using that foundation to coach the players. In other words, someone like Mark Jackson. Or the Hawks could target a lesser known candidate, like Jay Larranaga, Nate Tibbetts or Stephen Silas.

There are a number of routes that the Hawks could take, but the route they take could derail what’s shaping up to be a promising rebuild.
