Los Angeles Lakers: 2017-18 player grades for Kyle Kuzma
Strengths
The main aspect of Kuzma’s game that sticks it out his scoring versatility and confidence to take and make any shot. From pull-up jumpers from anywhere on the floor to running hook shots, there were numerous ways Kuzma scored this season.
His size and speed combo make him a mismatch for opponents; if you throw a smaller player on him he can drive to the basket and finish through contact, but if a larger player is put on him to counter his strength, he showed the quickness to go around them and get easy shots at the rim.
Kuzma’s scoring ability is the standout talent, but his rebounding production and ability to guard multiple positions on the defensive end should not be overshadowed. It also doesn’t hurt that he fits perfectly with the up-tempo style of play the Lakers utilized this season and plan to employ moving forward.
Off the court, Kuzma is a positive presence that keeps things light in the locker room and on social media, often joking around with teammates, especially Lonzo Ball. His personality is infectious and aligns with the chillness of head coach Luke Walton and the culture they have implemented into the franchise.
Other facets of his game are solid, but Kuzma’s scoring versatility and personality off the floor stand out as his two greatest strengths from the 2017-18 season.
