2. Rockets fail to get much outside of Big 3

The Rockets play their best basketball when everyone is involved and contributing scoring opportunities. While they have the star power to overpower most teams in Chris Paul and James Harden, they need assistance to consistently beat the good opponents.

Clint Capela has been the consistent third wheel all season, so no one can deny the Rockets having a Big 3. All three members had good showings again in Game 2, and if it was up to them alone, Houston would probably be up 2-0 right now.

Unfortunately, the trio needed additional assistance, and there wasn’t much to go around. Maybe we’re being unfair here, as Eric Gordon did finish with 15 points. Outside of him, however, every Rocket not named Harden, Paul, or Capela, were relatively quiet, and even Gordon shot an ugly 5-for-16 from the floor.

That remaining group of six players combined for 17 points in what was an ugly shooting game by Houston’s standards. Utah’s defense should only improve back at home, so the Rockets will desperately need others to step up if they want to avoid a potential upset.

They may even need to consider creative ways to gather those contributions.
