2. Wesley Matthews must step up

Wesley Matthews is one player who took a step back in 2017-18. The expectations for Matthews certainly have to be rising after a 27-58 season with this rotation. His shooting numbers were up to 40.6 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from 3-point land, but his scoring was down to 12.5 points per contest.

Matthews also averaged 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, but when it came to being a veteran leader, he was anything but that. He turned in an offensive rating of 103.1, a defensive rating of 111.0 with a net rating of -7.9.

At 31 years of age, Matthews looked like everything but a leader on a squad that was in desperate need of a whole lot in 2017-18. Next season will be a pivotal year for Matthews, as he will pick up the $18.6 million player option. After earning a lucrative payday from Dallas, he’ll need to step up and play big in 2018-19 or he could be looking for a new team.
