Most Improved Player: Kris Dunn

Kris Dunn was selected at the No. 5 spot by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2016 NBA Draft. Unfortunately, his rookie season in the Twin Cities was memorable for all of the wrong reasons.

In 78 appearances, Dunn’s averages included 3.8 points and 2.4 assists per contest on slash lines of .377/.288/.610. Needless to say, these numbers didn’t exactly give Bulls fans confidence about the team’s new point guard.

Under a different coaching regime, Dunn flourished during his second NBA season as his numbers drastically improved across the board. He averaged 13.4 points and 6.0 assists per contest. It is also worth noting that his shooting efficiency (42.9 percent overall and 32.1 percent from beyond the arc) is noticeably higher than the numbers he posted during his rookie campaign.

Furthermore, Dunn was a ball hawk on defense as he led the team with 2.0 steals per contest. In other words, Dunn was effective at both ends of the court, something that was not a certainty coming into the season, which made him as an easy choice for the MIP award.
