Overall grade

When watching Allen, it’s difficult to remember that he just turned 20 in late April. He is way ahead of schedule when considering how raw he was at Texas.

Allen’s rim-running, rim protection and strong finishing are already attributes of a positive contributor. The fact that he is already playing efficiently on a 28-win team is exceptional.

With that in mind, I give Allen an A- for the season. He is not an A-level player, but he exceeded every expectation he could have this season. The Nets got a steal late in the first round, which is a testament to not only the acumen of the front office, but also the developmental genius of Kenny Atkinson.

Allen has minute deficiencies which can be improved, but even some good centers have similar shortcomings. The fact that Allen, a rookie who can’t even have a beer yet, is this good is nothing short of impressive.

The NBA will have a load on its hands as Allen learns how to play in the NBA. With more shooting around him, his forceful length and athleticism will allow him to eliminate opponents for years to come.
