Atlanta Hawks: 2017-18 player grades for Dennis Schroder
Highlights
Schroder had the basketball in his hands a lot more this season. Naturally, this meant that he was going to have standout games, even on a moribund Hawks team. Schroder’s best game was a 41-point effort against the Utah Jazz.
Schroder consistently broke down the vaunted Jazz defense via the pick-and-roll, getting to the basket, pulling up and dishing out some nice assists. My personal favorite is that dime that he rifles to Damion Lee for an easy two in the paint (1:00 mark).
Another signature performance came against the Dallas Mavericks a couple of days before Christmas. Schroder once again used ball screens to get whatever he wanted against a soft-serve Mavs defense.
Whenever an extra defender came over to help, Schroder either slipped it to an open big or found a shooter waiting to let one loose.
One of Schroder’s best games in terms of plus/minus was against the defending Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers. He finished with a +9 in the two-point victory, feasting on the Cavs’ matador defense.
In particular, Schroder picked on the guy that was ambling around in a Derrick Rose jersey and the Atlanta guard used his quickness to dissect an unconnected Cavs team.
