3. Big second quarter helped Milwaukee pull away

After heading into the second quarter with a two-point lead, the Celtics would give that up and then some, getting outscored by the Bucks 26-15 to head into halftime down nine. The lead would grow as big as 14 in the third quarter, as the Bucks simply wouldn’t allow elimination in front of their home fans.

As we’ve seen against teams including the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets, the Celtics are capable of coming back from what appear to be insurmountable deficits. That notion rang true in Game 6, as the C’s wounded up tying the game in the middle of the third before the Bucks pulled away once again.

However, just because Boston can make up deficits, that doesn’t mean it should get to that point in the first place. Yes, the defense is elite, but when the Cs shoot 37 percent from the field, even the best defenses can’t help a team score enough points to bring them all the way back.

Boston can’t allow the Bucks to open up a double-digit lead, because if its shots aren’t falling, despite a great defensive effort, it runs the risk of having that deficit grow larger by the minute.
