Los Angeles Lakers: Pondering potential Kawhi Leonard trade packages
The Los Angeles Lakers have a number of trade package options to consider if the San Antonio Spurs decide to listen to offers for Kawhi Leonard.
Pretty much every NBA trade rumor right now revolves around Kawhi Leonard. Most of them also make some sort of connection between the San Antonio Spurs‘ two-way superstar forward and the Los Angeles Lakers.
There’s just one problem: the Spurs may not be willing to talk a Leonard trade with the Lakers.
According to the OC Register’s Mark Heisler, the Spurs (and, more specifically, Gregg Popovich) may not have much interest in dealing with Magic Johnson. Apparently, it’s a “cardinal rule” for the Spurs’ head honcho to not aid Western Conference rivals, a category the Lakers fall under considering the two franchises’ history.
Whether or not that’s the case is still to be determined. Until we hear that from the horse’s mouth, I’m going to assume there’s still some sort of possibility that the Lakers could acquire Leonard this offseason. It won’t be easy, but the odds aren’t at zero just yet.
So that’s why I’ve decided to examine some potential trade packages. The Lakers are going to have to give up something dear to them in order to acquire the Los Angeles native and two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Realistically, though, striking a deal for Leonard could be a game-changer this offseason.

Anyways, let’s cut to the chase. Here are three potential Leonard trade packages worth pondering for the Lakers. They may not all be feasible, but I’m sure someone out there would try to convince you otherwise.
Note: These trades would not be financially possible until free agency, when the Lakers will have enough cap room to absorb the final year Leonard’s contract.
