Predictions

The New Orleans Pelicans shocked the league in the first round, not only upsetting the Portland Trail Blazers but sweeping them. Everything went right for the Pelicans, and as a result they look to be playing at an elite level.

If the Pelicans can maintain that elite level and fight off regression, they have the talent to push the Golden State Warriors. Anthony Davis is one of the most difficult players in the league to defend, and he will test Ron Adams, Draymond Green and the entire Warriors defense.

But the Pelicans hit the perfect storm last round by facing a Portland team without a star wing, and they have no such luxury here. Kevin Durant is able to overcome the best wing defenders, and the Pelicans are short on any such players. E’Twaun Moore starts at the 3 for the Pelicans, but gives up seven inches to Durant. KD should cook Moore, Darius Miller or anyone New Orleans sends at him.

The Warriors hope that Stephen Curry can come back soon, but as insurance rather than a swing piece. Golden State has the best coach, the best player and the most depth — all important pieces that should help swing this series. It will be a much harder fight than four years ago when the Pelicans were the first team to fall en route to the Warriors’ first title.

Harder, but no different of an outcome.
