Memphis Grizzlies: 2017-18 team awards
By Tony East
Most Improved Player: MarShon Brooks
WIth 10 games to go in the regular season, this award basically already had Tyreke’s name engraved on it. But then, MarShon Brooks came along.
The last full season Brooks played in the NBA was the first year the Brooklyn Nets weren’t the New Jersey Nets. That is how long it had been since Brooks had an impact around the league. He spent three and a half seasons in China and appeared to have no path back to the league.
Now, he has a guaranteed contract for next season. His improvement as a player, and shooter, was remarkable.
For starters, 19 of his 32 3-pointers went in. Half of his overall shots went in. He could carve up defenses whenever he wanted, and he hit clutch shot after clutch shot. Brooks went from being a nobody to a household name in Memphis.
So, yeah, he’s the Most Improved Player of the Year.
