2017-18 was yet another disappointing year for the New York Knicks. Here are five of the biggest disappointments of the season.
The New York Knicks wasted no time getting their offseason started, as they fired head coach Jeff Hornacek hours after the 2017-18 regular season concluded. The Knicks defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road, and upon returning to New York, Hornacek was notified of his firing.
While Hornacek wasn’t dealt a great hand, the writing had been on the wall for a while. The person who hired him, Phil Jackson, was no longer with the organization. New York also finished the season 29-53.
Hornacek is not the lone reason that the team struggled to that record. The roster isn’t overly talented, and it crumbled without the team’s superstar, Kristaps Porzingis. Hornacek did himself no favors with how he handled the Joakim Noah incident, either. However, some coaches get the most out of their players even when they don’t have the most talented bunch, and Hornacek was never able to consistently do that.
With Hornacek now gone, general manager Scott Perry and team president Steve Mills can find a coach to fit their vision. Hopefully, whoever is hired can do a better job of handling certain things that Hornacek did during his short-lived tenure in New York.
Hornacek’s firing was the finishing touch on a season that was filled with ugly moments. Here are five of the ugliest from the 2017-18 season for New York.
