Sacramento Kings: Top 10 moments from 2017-18 NBA season
4. Garrett Temple scores career-high 34 points, goes 14-for-17 in win at Orlando
Garrett Temple isn’t a household name among NBA fans. However, he made himself known when the Kings took on the Orlando Magic on Jan. 23. Temple had a career-high 34 points while shooting an unreal 14-for-17 from the field, leading Sac-Town to the 105-99 win.
Temple scored 19 of his points in the fourth quarter. His 82.4 field goal percentage in the game is the seventh-highest in franchise history for a player that attempted at least 15 shots.
Temple entered the game in relief of De’Aaron Fox, who left the game midway through the second quarter with an abdominal strain. In 40 minutes, Temple went 4-for-7 from 3-point range and a perfect 10-for-10 inside the arc. Eight of his makes came from mid-range.
Temple told Kings broadcasters Grant Napear and Doug Christie in the postgame interview, which was shortly interrupted by a surprise Gatorade mini-bath, that it was all about taking what the defense gave him.
"“Yeah, I felt good, man. You know, when I play the point guard, I look to come off of those screen-and-rolls. [The Magic] were sitting way back [on defense], so I got a couple of middys to go down early in the first half. So it felt good, man. I got to credit my bigs for setting good screens”."
2017-18 was Temple’s second season in Sacramento. It was also his best year in eight seasons of NBA basketball. He averaged a career-high 8.4 points per game while pulling down 2.3 rebounds and dishing out 1.9 assists each night. However, this night was unlike any other in Garrett Temple’s career.
