4. Dirk surpasses 50,000 minutes in his career

The Dallas Mavericks and Dirk Nowitzki have built quite the legacy during his 20 seasons in the NBA. Nowitzki made some milestones of his own despite the Mavericks’ down year.

His first milestone of the season came against the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 5. He became the sixth player in NBA history to play at least 50,000 minutes in their career. Nowitzki played 23 minutes in the game, putting up 12 points in the 104-101 loss.

Nowitzki is showing off his durability at the ripe age of 39 years old. He will turn 40 next season and by reaching 50,000 minutes, already joined a list of Kareem Abdul-JabbarKarl Malone, Kevin Garnett, Jason Kidd and Elvin Hayes. It was a night of grand honor despite team staff spelling his name wrong on his jersey.

Nowitzki finished the regular season with 1,900 minutes to total 50,573 career minutes going into next season. He has a chance to surpass a few more players on the list if he can keep up his consistency. Dirk has already announced his plans to return for his 21st season in 2018-19, so at least for now, he can add to his career minutes.
