Dallas Mavericks: Top 10 moments from 2017-18 NBA season
7. Dennis Smith Jr. records his first career triple-double
The biggest highlight of the Dallas Mavericks’ four-game winning streak was Dennis Smith Jr. recording his first career triple-double. The rookie showed his leadership in putting up 21 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in a 128-120 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Dec. 29.
Smith was 8-for-11 from the field and 5-for-7 from 3-point range in the game, an impressive shooting night on the road. Wesley Matthews was behind him in the points column with 18 points on 4-for-7 shooting from behind the arc. Dirk Nowitzki and Harrison Barnes had 13 points apiece as well.
Dallas never trailed during the game and led by as many as 26 points. They overcame 33 points from DeMarcus Cousins, 32 from Anthony Davis and 23 from Jrue Holiday to hold on for the victory at the end.
The Mavericks scored 128 points in the game, their second-highest total of the regular season. It was the one and only triple-double of the year for Dennis Smith Jr., but it probably won’t be the last depending on how their offseason goes.
