Phoenix Suns: Top 10 moments from 2017-18 NBA season
2. Warren and Book tag-team (x2)
We’re cheating a bit with this one, since there were two memorable games where Devin Booker and T.J. Warren teamed up to lead the Suns to unexpected wins over playoff-caliber teams. Sure, both came against the eventual 8-seed in each conference, but playoff teams nonetheless!
On Nov. 1, the Suns earned arguably their most impressive win of the season to move to .500 for the first and only time in 2017-18. Trailing by 22 points on the road against the Washington Wizards, it seemed like Phoenix was heading for its first completely uninspired loss under Triano.
Instead, Tony Buckets dropped 28 of his career-high 40 points in the second half, helping the Suns surge to a six-point win. Booker chipped in 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting, while Warren was a scorching hot 16-for-22 from the floor. The win marked Phoenix’s fourth win in its first five games under the new coach.
The Suns would go on to lose their next five games, of course, but they snapped the skid with a win that was arguably even more impressive.
With the Minnesota Timberwolves in town, the Suns’ star scorers outplayed their opponent’s leading wings in Jimmy Butler (25-6-5) and Andrew Wiggins (27 points), leading the Phoenix to a 108-100 victory.
Booker was the shining star with 35 points, nine boards and six dimes, while Warren chipped in 35 points of his own and six rebounds.
Thanks to injury problems, the Suns didn’t get to see as much of Devin Booker and T.J. Warren together as much as they would’ve liked.
Warren’s lack of development as a perimeter shooter and defender also caps his potential fit alongside Booker, turning that four-year, $50 million contract extension from a fair deal to one that might need to be moved soon — especially if he’s not amenable to a sixth man role behind Josh Jackson in the future.
With that being said, on the occasions when Book and Tony Buckets were on the same page this season, the results spoke for themselves.
