7. Prince’s 3-pointer caps emotional win over Suns

This March 4 matchup pitted two teams that would eventually finish at the bottom of their respective conferences against other. However, this game between the Hawks and the Phoenix Suns turned out to be one of the better games in the league this season. It was tight from tip to buzzer with 24 ties and 11 lead changes. Neither side led by more than seven points.

Both teams shot with surprising efficiency. The Suns shot 50 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from 3-point range. That was 5.9 and 9.0 percent, respectively, above their averages from those ranges entering the game. Meanwhile, the Hawks shot 45.7 percent from the field and 51.5 percent from distance, which were 0.9 and 15.4 percent improvements from their averages at the time.

The tension of the game eventually boiled over. With 2:14 remaining in the game, Taurean Prince challenged Josh Jackson at the basket, resulting in a goaltending call. The two exchanged words and shoves along the baseline. Isaiah Taylor and Elfrid Payton quickly jumped in, serving as instigators more so than peacemakers. As a result, Prince and Jackson were given technicals while Taylor and Payton were ejected.

It was good for Atlanta that Prince only received a technical, as his services were needed in the clutch. This heated duel was ultimately decided by a pull-up triple by Prince with 8.6 seconds left in regulation. The bucket capped a team-high 22-point performance and helped Atlanta notch the 113-112 win, their 20th of the season.
