8. Bazemore’s 3-pointer pushes Hawks past Knicks on Super Bowl Sunday

With 58 losses, including 35 by 10 or more points, it was hard to find fun games involving the Atlanta Hawks, but spectators that caught their Super Bowl Sunday matinee at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks got a treat.

The game was back-and-forth throughout, featuring 14 ties and eight lead changes. The scoring margin never reached double-digits. Atlanta had a strong game on the perimeter, scorching the net on offense and locking down New York on defense. The Hawks shot 45.5 percent from beyond the arc and held the Knicks to 21.7 percent.

However, New York put up a larger volume of shots, making 41 field goals to Atlanta’s 35. This was enough to keep them in the game down to the final moments.

The Hawks were down 95-90 with 1:44 remaining in regulation. From there, they proceeded to go on a 9-1 run to close out the game. The defining moment came with eight seconds left, when Kent Bazmore knocked down a corner 3-pointer to give Atlanta a 98-96 lead.

One Dewayne Dedmon free throw later, the Knicks had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but Tim Hardaway Jr.’s attempt from the right wing was unsuccessful. The Atlanta Hawks outlasted the New York Knicks 99-96 at the Garden, securing their 16th win of the season.
