10. Hawks push Warriors to the limit with late rally

Atlanta obviously lost way more games than it won, but that didn’t stop it from competing on most nights. The Hawks especially got up for elite opponents, as the young roster wanted to prove it could hang with bigger teams. That was the case on March 2 when the Golden State Warriors came to town.

The game seemed well in hand most of the way. Golden State led by as much as 15 at the beginning of the third quarter, but the Hawks chipped away at the deficit and got to within two points with 20.3 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, Kent Bazemore turned the ball over with 7.6 seconds left in regulation that led to a breakaway jam by Andre Iguodala. The slam sealed a 114-109 win for the Warriors.

The Hawks shot 42.9 percent from 3-point range on the night. They also scored 30 points off of turnovers, the third-highest total on the season. Bazemore, a former Warrior, paced Atlanta with 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Dennis Schroder chipped in 27 points and nine assists.

In the NBA, any team can win on any given night. Atlanta reminded the defending champions of this fact, making them work for their victory inside of the Highlight Factory.
