3. Shed salary

When the Grizzlies handed Chandler Parsons a four-year, $94 million dollar deal in the summer of 2016, they envisioned the then 27-year-old as a floor-spacing point forward, capable of providing Memphis with versatility from both forward spots.

Two years later, Parsons hasn’t been any of those things, mainly due to his inability to stay healthy for any stretch of time. The seven-year veteran has played in a combined 70 games during his two-year stint in Grind City, making his contract arguably the worst in the NBA.

There is no logical solution for the Grizzlies to unload Parsons’ contract, but they have to at least give it a try.

Like trading Gasol and Conley, getting Parsons contract off the books would give Memphis more cap room to work with in the coming seasons, allowing them to pursue more free agents or possibly acquire draft picks in a salary dump.

Unloading Parson’s ridiculous contract will no doubt take some creativity, and might even require a draft pick or two thrown into the deal, but the weight lifted off the Grizzlies’ shoulders for now and beyond could prove worth it.
