4. Draft pick

As a result of their less than stellar 22-60 regular season record, the Grizzlies are in great position to add a possible franchise-altering talent in the upcoming draft.

Currently with the second-best chances at the No. 1 overall pick, Memphis will be able to choose from a large selection of talented players in a loaded 2018 NBA Draft class.

Assuming the order holds and depending on who the Phoenix Suns select, DeAndre Ayton, Luka Doncic, and Marvin Bagley Jr. among others will be available, with all flashing the capabilities of leading a franchise for years to come.

While it shouldn’t be so difficult considering the talent level of this draft class, Memphis has to make sure it nails this selection.

This doesn’t mean choosing the guy who will end up being the best in the class, as that’s nearly impossible to predict before their careers even get started. Rather, it’s a message to the Grizzlies front office to not get cute with this coveted draft pick.

There’s no reason to swing for the fences and draft Trae Young or trade the pick in order to keep the Marc Gasol and Mike Conley era alive. The Grizzlies need to simply select whoever Phoenix doesn’t pick between Ayton and Doncic, and begin their long and arduous rebuild.
