San Antonio Spurs: 3 takeaways from Game 1 vs. Warriors
1. All-Star no-show
In the 2017 Western Conference Finals, LaMarcus Aldridge averaged just 15.5 points per game on 41.3 percent shooting over the four games, having a tough time against the versatile, trash-talking Draymond Green.
Aldridge’s struggles against Golden State continued Saturday afternoon as he scored only 14 points, grabbed only two rebounds, and was a -13 in 24 minutes.
While he’s done a fantastic job of leading the Spurs into the playoffs, Aldridge has to do more for the team. With Kawhi Leonard not expected back in this series, the bulk of the scoring load is going to fall on LaMarcus’s shoulders.
Despite Popovich’s ability to get the most out of his players, the Spurs still need someone who can get a bucket when called upon at any time. Aldridge’s ability to put the ball in the basket will open up San Antonio’s offense, forcing the Warriors to double-team him and leave their shooters open.
