3. Playoff Rondo!!

For those that don’t understand the reference, Playoff Rondo refers to the heightened level of play and effort that Pelicans point guard Rajon Rondo tends to exude once the playoffs begin.

The legend of Playoff Rondo grew once again Saturday night, as the former NBA champion finished with a game-high 17 assists to go along with six points and eight rebounds (in a classic Rondo stat line.)

It’s no secret that Rondo has one of the highest I.Q.s in the NBA, with ESPN‘s broadcast team even referencing his penchant for breaking down practice film on top of game film. His I.Q. was on full display with full-court passes, lobs, and simple darts to open shooters comprising his 17 assists.

There is no explanation for Playoff Rondo, but it could become a huge factor in the Pelicans’ hopes for an upset. His ability to push the pace and find the open man is crucial to a New Orleans team that loves to get out on the fast break with Anthony Davis at center.

Rondo may not be able to take over a game with his scoring ability, but his passing and I.Q. make him invaluable, and if he’s able to start playing defense like Boston Celtics Rondo, the Blazers should be very afraid.
