The New York Knicks have fired head coach Jeff Hornacek. Here are five candidates to replace him on the sidelines.

The New York Knicks finished up the 2017-18 regular season on a high note, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road. Getting a victory to finish the season was nice, but it was not enough to save head coach Jeff Hornacek.

Hornacek was relieved from his duties as head coach of the Knicks hours after their regular season concluded. New York missed the postseason for the fifth consecutive season, the last two of which Hornacek oversaw.

In his two seasons leading the Knicks, Hornacek compiled a record of 60-104. To be fair, Hornacek wasn’t dealt a great hand when it came to coaching the team. The organization saw a front office overhaul after his first season, as Phil Jackson was fired as team president and replaced by Steve Mills, who was his general manager. Scott Perry took over the general manager role from Mills.

In addition to the change in leadership, the Knicks’ roster underwent drastic changes as well. New York is in a state of transition, as Carmelo Anthony was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder prior to training camp. As a result, Kristaps Porzingis took over as the alpha dog.

Things began well, but injuries derailed the Knicks. Once Porzingis went down with a torn ACL, their season was effectively ended as well.

This move isn’€™t too big of a surprise, as the new front office will want to find its own guy to lead the team, not someone Jackson picked. Now, they will have that opportunity.

Who will it be? There are a number of options for the organization to consider. Here are five candidates the Knicks should consider to replace Hornacek as the new head coach of the team.
