Check out our takeaways for the Charlotte Hornets from the 2017-18 regular season.

The Charlotte Hornets wrapped up their 2017-18 regular season on a high note, defeating the Indiana Pacers. Unfortunately for Charlotte, that is where the season will end.

The Hornets will be missing the postseason for the second consecutive season. Since winning 48 games during the 2015-16 season and looking to be on the upswing, the team has fallen back to Earth. This was the second consecutive season that they won 36 games, taking a step back for the second year in a row.

Charlotte came into the season with some expectations. With the addition of Dwight Howard, the Hornets looked to have one of the better starting lineups in the Eastern Conference. There was some hope that they would be able to make the postseason with so many teams in the Eastern Conference looking to rebuild and tank this season.

Surprisingly, the Hornets turned into one of those struggling teams. They were never able to put together a sustained stretch of success. They had only four instances they won at least three games in a row. On the flip side, they had seven instances that they lost at least three games in a row.

That is not a recipe for success, as Charlotte fell short of the goals they had set for this season. They looked to shed salary at different times in the past year and were unsuccessful doing so. That could be the goal again this season, as the Hornets already made changes to their front office, and changes could be coming elsewhere as well.

Before we get to breaking down the offseason, let’s review the regular season. Check out our takeaways for the Hornets from the 2017-18 campaign.
