Over the course of his freshman college basketball season, Michigan State big man Jaren Jackson Jr. emerged as a dark horse candidate to steal a potential top NBA Draft selection from Luka Doncic or DeAndre Ayton.
When Jaren Jackson Jr. arrived in East Lansing, he was not even considered the best NBA prospect on campus. Jackson’s teammate Miles Bridges turned down an almost surefire lottery selection in 2017 to try and chase a national championship.
Even though the Spartans did not win a title, their season saw the emergence of Jackson as a future top-five selection in the 2018 NBA Draft.
