Washington Wizards: 5 keys for the home stretch of the regular season
2. Get Kelly Oubre Jr. out of his slump
The Washington Wizards aren’t getting the most out of their best bench player, Kelly Oubre Jr. Oubre is currently slumping during the Wizards’ current losing streak. He is averaging 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game off the bench. To make matters worse, he’s shooting 21.4 percent from the floor and 8.3 percent from 3-point range.
Oubre is shooting 2-for-29 (6.9 percent) from the 3-point arc in Washington’s last six contests. He’s one of those players who needs to focus on getting to the free throw line and seeing the ball go in from there before he needs to take more 3-point attempts.
He shot 2-of-9 (22.2) and missed both of his 3-point shots attempted in Thursday night’s game against Cleveland. Although he finished with six points, it wasn’t one of the best performances fans have come to expect from Oubre.
For the season, Oubre is averaging 11.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 33.6 percent from behind the arc. He’s got a bit of time to work his way out of his slump. He’ll be needed, especially in crunch time, during the NBA Playoffs.
