Overachiever: Kemba Walker, Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night, but don’t let that overshadow what Kemba Walker has done for them this year.

On Wednesday, Walker became the all-time scoring leader for the Hornets franchise, passing former legend Dell Curry with 9,481 points. Walker has been on a tear for Charlotte, which has won four of their last five games. He’s averaging 29.2 points, 4.6 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals in their last five contests while shooting 44.7 percent from 3-point range alone.

Last Thursday night, he exploded for 46 points on 10-of-14 shooting from 3-point range in a 140-79 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. It was Charlotte’s largest margin of victory in franchise history and oh, Walker didn’t play in the fourth quarter.

The Hornets aren’t out of the playoff picture just yet, either. They have a 34-42 record, trailing the Milwaukee Bucks by six games for the eighth spot in the standings. The Hornets will need some pieces to fall in their favor, but with Kemba Walker leading the charge, expect an exciting finish to the regular season.
