Underperformer: Tony Parker, San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are another team reeling in the Western Conference and some of it has to do with the play of veteran point guard Tony Parker. As the Spurs have lost two straight games, it’s worth taking a look at Parker’s numbers.
He’s averaging 4.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists across 18.2 minutes per game in the last two contests. He’s shooting 3-of-11 (27.3 percent) from the floor while boasting a plus/minus rating of -7.0.
Parker fell out of the starting rotation earlier in the season in favor of Dejounte Murray. He started the season on the team’s inactive list entering his 16th season in the NBA. As his decline continues, it will be interesting to see how much patience the Spurs front office has with him.
It hasn’t helped Kawhi Leonard has appeared in just nine games this season and hasn’t played in a game since Jan. 13. Parker will need to find his way again if he hopes to contribute to San Antonio’s playoff run this year, that’s for sure.
