2. Go all-in on two max contract players

Now we turn our attention to the most popular of possible offseason approaches for the Lakers. It’s the most “pipe dream” feel of the three I’m detailing today, seeing as it’s not overwhelmingly likely to come to fruition.

Why? Well it would theoretically entail inking both LeBron James and Paul George. While that’s a great hope to have for Magic, Rob Pelinka and the rest of the Lakers brass, it’s going to take an epic pitch and plenty of luck. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but the odds are not in Los Angeles’ favor at this point in time.

So let’s say the Lakers only get one. Well, they could decide to use the remaining money to add another superstar, even if it isn’t one of the players originally in their crosshairs. I mean, there are plenty of worthy names set to be available. There are big men like DeMarcus Cousins and DeAndre Jordan who could warrant the steep investment. Restricted free agents such as Jabari Parker, Clint Capela and Aaron Gordon could also be considerations.

Either way, the Lakers have money to spend this offseason — why not give it to someone, right? Especially with so many teams facing huge cap constraints in 2018-19, you better believe Magic would find someone willing to cash a massive check to play co-star on the Lake Show.

This approach could end with varying results. If it brings James and George to Hollywood, then that’s awesome. If the Lakers get desperate enough to gift someone else a max contract, though, I may be hesitant to call it a win.
