Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 leaders that need to step up
By Ryan Piers
Injuries and questions are swirling around the Cleveland Cavaliers. With a decimated roster, members of the team will need to step up in troubling times.
The bizarre twists and storylines continue to pelt the Cleveland Cavaliers. Even with the ups and downs, it’s doubtful many within the organization expected to worry about the health of head coach Tyronn Lue.
Lue was forced to leave Saturday’s game against the Chicago Bulls with an illness. It’s the third time this year he’s missed part or all of a game due to injury. According to Cleveland.com, the Cavs are mum on the cause. The team feels uncomfortable sharing details about whatever is ailing coach.
"“We worry about his health, obviously,” LeBron James told reporters. “That’s way more important than this game of basketball. We know he’s been doing everything he needs to do to stay healthy- (maybe he should) take even more time to get himself right.”"
Reading between the lines is when it comes to an illness is always dangerous. It’s impossible to play doctor from glancing at a quote, but it appears this is more than just the common cold. James’ chilling last line seems to indicate as much, and according to ESPN‘s Dave McMenamin, Lue will be stepping away for awhile to focus on his health.
Couple this with the barrage of injuries Cleveland endured over the past road trip — losing Larry Nance Jr., Cedi Osman and Rodney Hood — and answers must come from unlikely sources. Cleveland will surely make the playoffs, being 10 full games above the ninth-place Detroit Pistons. They would, however, like to avoid playing the Boston Celtics or a red-hot Toronto Raptors team in the first round.
Here are some people that need to step up in order to make that happen.
