Overachiever: Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers are currently the third-best team in the Western Conference with a 42-26 record. They are getting maximum effort out of point guard Damian Lillard and it’s raising his status for possible MVP talk.
Lillard is averaging 30.7 points, 6.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game in March. To make it even more spectacular, he’s shooting 43.2 percent from 3-point range across the same span. In the Trail Blazers’ last game on Monday night, Lillard put up 32 points on seven 3-pointers. In fact, he’s made at least one 3-pointer in all but one game this season for Portland.
He’s elevated his play of late and it’s shown as Portland is currently on a 10-game winning streak. On the season, he’s put up one 50-point game, two 40-point games and 19 30-point games. Lillard is leading the charge for Portland and if you haven’t taken notice yet, you should.
He ranks second in the league to Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Kevin Durant in points per game (31.5) since the All-Star Break ended.
