NBA: Underperformers and overachievers for Week 22
Underperformer: New York Knicks
Things have changed drastically for the New York Knicks since losing Kristaps Porzingis to injury back on Feb. 6. Since Porzingis tore his ACL, the Knicks are 1-13. They are a team slumping, losing nine in a row and counting. They’ve won just one game in their last 17 contests.
The Knicks remain winless in the month of March at 0-7. They rank 25th as a team in points per game (102.3) and last as a team in 3-point field goal percentage (32.1) this month. Their defensive rating for the month is 119.3 and net rating is -16.3. Looking across the roster, it’s not hard to see where things have gone sour.
Tim Hardaway Jr. is averaging 19.9 points per game this month, but shooting 26.0 percent from 3-point range. Recently acquired point-man Emmanuel Mudiay is averaging 9.4 points per game on 34.2 percent shooting from the floor.
Things won’t get any easier for the Knicks going forward, who have a 24-45 record. The NBA Draft will be here soon enough.
