Remembering Stephen Curry’s 30 greatest moments on his 30th birthday
6. “I’m Back”
Curry started the 2016 NBA Playoffs the exact way he ended the regular season: in God mode. He had 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting through the first half of Game 1 against Houston, and there was a question as to whether anyone could beat his team in a game, let alone a series.
A foot injury ended his night early, and he got injured far more seriously upon returning in Game 4, spraining his MCL when he slipped on a puddle of sweat. Curry missed the next four games (one against Houston and three against Portland) and came off the bench in Game 4 of Round 2. The Warriors — down 16-2 when Curry entered and in danger of falling to 2-2 in the series — got a spark from the MVP, but he struggled to find his rhythm until late.
His 10 points in the 4th forced forced overtime, and that’s where the magic happened. Curry scored 17 in the extra period, an NBA record — postseason or otherwise.
After a deep triple gave him his 12th consecutive point, he removed his mouthpiece to deliver a message to the Portland crowd.
“I’m here. I’m back.”
